What are the common problems you treat in teens?

We may be a good fit if your teen struggles to control their emotions, make effective decisions, tolerate stressors, behavioral issues, difficulties in social, familial, or peer relationships, identity, and self-esteem.

How can DBT-informed help my teen?

Specialized to your goals, therapy sessions may focus on increasing resilience, learning practical strategies to cope with life’s stressors, and improving communication or your teens’s ability to advocate for themselves in social relationships. Whether your child or teen is willingly attending therapy or a bit skeptical, I’ll be able to draw from Motivational Interviewing and Play Therapy to strengthen their motivation for treatment and build trust for working therapeutic relationship. I may also draw from my experience in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to teach relevant emotion regulation skills and distress tolerance skills.

What does the first session look like?

With any teen, our first session will include one or both caregivers. In the first session, we’ll focus on building rapport, understanding the whole problem, and establishing clear goals for treatment to set you up for success. Parent-child or parent coaching sessions may be part of your child’s treatment when clinically appropriate.
